The Charge Port's Take
Hand-written editorial · last updated September 2026
The 2026 Niro EV is the last one
Kia priced the 2026 Niro EV in January 2026, then announced on August 27, 2026 that the 2027 Niro is offered exclusively as a hybrid. EPA's 2027 listings include no Niro Electric either, so the 2026 is the final model year. New 2026 cars are still being sold from remaining inventory: in late September, kia.com still listed the Niro EV from $39,700 with limited inventory available. Once that stock is gone, the Niro EV is a used-car purchase.
Trims and pricing
Kia's last MSRPs are $39,700 for the Wind and $44,700 for the Wave, before a $1,495 destination charge. Both trims share the front-drive powertrain and the 253-mile EPA rating. The Wave adds perforated vegan-leather upholstery and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) inverter that can run devices from the battery. Remaining new cars are priced by the dealer, so transaction prices can differ from these MSRPs, and no federal EV tax credit applies; it ended September 30, 2025.
Range and efficiency
EPA rates both Niro EV trims at 253 miles, with an efficiency figure of 30 kWh per 100 miles, from a 64.8 kWh battery. That's respectable for a compact crossover, but newer rivals go further: Chevrolet's 2027 Bolt EV is rated at 262 miles for $27,600 before destination, and Kia's own EV3, not yet on sale, has an EPA rating of up to 321 miles. Expect less than 253 miles at sustained highway speed and in freezing weather.
Charging and Supercharger access
Kia quotes 10% to 80% in 43 minutes on a DC fast charger, well behind the 2027 Bolt EV's 25 minutes. At home, the 11 kW onboard charger fills the battery in about 6 hours on a matching Level 2 charger. The charge port sits in the front bumper. To use Tesla Superchargers, Kia says owners need a NACS adapter, sold separately, so budget for one if you'll road-trip on that network.
Space and practicality
The Niro EV is a compact crossover with five seats, including a three-person 60/40 split rear bench, and 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, counting the under-floor tray. A 150 kW front motor, about 201 hp, drives the front wheels on both trims. Kia doesn't publish a 0-60 mph time for the US model, so we don't list one. The Wave's V2L inverter lets the battery power small appliances or tools away from an outlet.
Buying a leftover or used Niro EV
A leftover 2026 makes most sense at a meaningful discount, for a buyer who wants a compact, efficient EV and charges mostly at home. Compare it with the cheaper, longer-range 2027 Bolt EV, which has a native NACS port, before signing. For a used Niro EV, check the battery's state of health and the remaining warranty on the exact car; Kia's EV battery warranty terms for the Niro EV are in the FAQ below.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the 2026 Kia Niro EV cost?
Kia has discontinued the Niro EV. Its last MSRPs ran from $39,700 for the Niro EV Wind to $44,700 for the Niro EV Wave across the 2 configurations we track. With Kia's $1,495 destination fee, that came to $41,195 to $46,195 before tax and options. By trim: Niro EV Wind, $39,700 ($41,195 with the destination fee); Niro EV Wave, $44,700 ($46,195 with the destination fee). Leftover new stock and used cars are priced by the seller, so expect prices to differ.
Is the Kia Niro EV discontinued?
Yes, after the 2026 model year. Kia's August 27, 2026 pricing release says the 2027 Niro is offered exclusively as a hybrid, and EPA's 2027 listings include no Niro Electric. New 2026 Niro EVs are still sold from remaining inventory: in late September 2026, kia.com listed the Niro EV from $39,700 with limited inventory available.
What is the range of the 2026 Kia Niro EV?
EPA rates the 2026 Niro EV at 253 miles for both the Wind and the Wave, with an efficiency figure of 30 kWh per 100 miles. There's no 2027 Niro EV to compare: Kia's 2027 Niro is a hybrid only. Expect less than 253 miles at sustained highway speed and in freezing weather.
How long does the Kia Niro EV take to DC fast-charge?
Kia quotes 10% to 80% in 43 minutes on a DC fast charger. At home, a full charge takes about 6 hours on an 11 kW Level 2 charger, the most its onboard charger accepts. To use Tesla Superchargers, Kia says you need a NACS adapter, sold separately.
Can the Kia Niro EV use Tesla Superchargers?
Yes, with an adapter. Kia says Niro EV owners can charge at Tesla Superchargers using a NACS adapter, sold separately. Ask a Kia dealer which adapter Kia supports for the Niro EV before you buy one. Kia quotes 10% to 80% in 43 minutes on a DC fast charger.
How fast does the Kia Niro EV accelerate 0-60 mph?
Kia doesn't publish a 0-60 mph time for the US Niro EV, so we don't list one, and we don't substitute magazine test results. Kia's US specifications list a 150 kW front motor, about 201 hp, driving the front wheels on both the Wind and the Wave.
Does the Kia Niro EV have vehicle-to-load (V2L)?
The Wave does. Kia lists a vehicle-to-load (V2L) inverter as standard on the 2026 Niro EV Wave and not on the Wind, so the Wave can power electrical devices from its battery. The Wave also adds perforated vegan-leather upholstery, and it costs $44,700 before destination, $5,000 more than the Wind.
How much cargo space does the Kia Niro EV have?
Kia lists 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with the second row upright, including the under-floor tray. The 60/40 split-folding rear bench seats three, for five seats in total, and folds down when you need room for longer loads.
Kia Niro EV vs Chevrolet Bolt EV: which should you buy?
On the figures in our database, the 2027 Bolt EV costs less ($27,600 before destination against the Niro EV Wind's $39,700), goes slightly further (262 miles EPA against 253) and charges faster (25 minutes 10–80% against 43). The Niro EV counters with more cargo space, 22.8 cubic feet against the Bolt's 16.2, and V2L on the Wave. A discounted leftover Niro can narrow the price gap.
Is the Kia Niro EV available with all-wheel drive?
Not in our data — both Kia Niro EV configurations we track use front-wheel drive, and we don't list an all-wheel-drive version.
How many people does the Kia Niro EV seat?
The Kia Niro EV seats 5.
Does the 2026 Kia Niro EV qualify for a federal EV tax credit?
No. The federal Clean Vehicle Credit (IRC §30D) expired on September 30, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — no new EVs purchased on or after October 1, 2025 qualify. State incentives remain available: see our /deals page for current rebates in California, Maine, Colorado, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and other states. The Section 30C EV Charger Tax Credit (for home charger installation) expired June 30, 2026 — if your charger was placed in service on or before that date, you can still claim it (30% up to $1,000) on your 2026 return via IRS Form 8911.
How long will the Kia Niro EV battery last?
Real-world data from EV fleets suggests modern lithium-ion EV batteries (2020+) retain roughly 85–90% of their original capacity at 100,000 miles, above the 70% capacity floor in the Kia Niro EV battery warranty, and 80–85% at 200,000 miles.
What is the Kia Niro EV battery warranty?
