The verdict

This is a final-year car against a new one. Kia's 2027 Niro is hybrid-only, so the 2026 Niro EV is the last of the line and sells from remaining dealer stock; the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV is a current model. On the spec sheet the Bolt leads where most budget buyers look first: it starts $12,100 lower ($27,600 against $39,700 before destination), goes a little farther (262 miles against 253), charges from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes against 43, and has a native NACS port, where Kia says the Niro EV needs an adapter, sold separately, for Superchargers. The Niro EV answers with more room behind the rear seats (22.8 against 16.2 cubic feet in our table), a published Level 2 full-charge time of about 6 hours on its 11 kW onboard charger (Chevrolet publishes none for the Bolt), and a 10-year/100,000-mile battery warranty in our data. Buy the Bolt unless you need the Niro's cargo space or find a final-year price that closes the gap.

Status and price: last call against a fresh start

Kia priced the 2026 Niro EV in January at $39,700 (Wind) and $44,700 (Wave), plus $1,495 destination. On Aug 27, 2026 it announced the 2027 Niro as a hybrid only, and EPA lists no 2027 Niro Electric, so remaining 2026 cars are the last new Niro EVs; Kia's site describes inventory as limited. The Bolt EV returned for 2027 at $27,600 (LT) and $31,600 (RS), plus $1,395 destination, built at GM's Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. Even the Bolt RS costs $8,100 less than the Niro EV Wind. The federal EV tax credit ended September 30, 2025, so neither gets it, and the sticker gap is the out-of-pocket gap unless a dealer discounts the Niro.

Range, charging and Supercharger access

EPA rates the Bolt at 262 miles and the Niro EV at 253, and the Bolt is slightly more efficient (28 against 30 kWh/100 mi). Fast charging is the bigger gap: 25 minutes from 10 to 80% for the Bolt against 43 for the Niro EV in our table. The Bolt has a native NACS port and plugs straight into Tesla Superchargers; Kia says the Niro EV reaches Superchargers with a NACS adapter sold separately. At home, the Niro EV's 11 kW onboard charger refills it in about 6 hours on Level 2; Chevrolet publishes no full-charge time for the Bolt, only about 40 miles of range per hour at 11.5 kW. Neither Chevrolet's published Bolt specifications nor Kia's for the US Niro EV give a 0-60 time, so we list one for neither.

Space, features and ownership

The Niro EV is the roomier car by the numbers: 22.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats against 16.2 for the Bolt. The Niro EV Wave adds vegan perforated leather, ventilated front seats and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) inverter. The Bolt's pitch is price and a current design: an LFP battery, which Chevrolet describes as GM's first application of LFP in North America, and Super Cruise listed as available even on the LT in Chevrolet's configurator. On ownership data, our warranty file shows Kia's 10-year/100,000-mile battery coverage for the Niro EV, but we don't have the new Bolt's terms on file yet. Our resale figure for the Bolt comes from a 2023 car, the previous generation, so it says little about the 2027 model, and we have no Niro EV resale figure. NHTSA hasn't published a crash rating for the 2026 Niro EV or the 2027 Bolt.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Kia Niro EV discontinued?
Yes, after the 2026 model year. Kia's Aug 27, 2026 pricing release says the 2027 Niro is offered only as a hybrid, and EPA lists no 2027 Niro Electric. New 2026 Niro EVs remain in dealer stock, which Kia's site describes as limited, at $39,700 (Wind) and $44,700 (Wave) before a $1,495 destination charge.
Is the Kia Niro EV or Chevrolet Bolt EV cheaper?
The Chevrolet Bolt EV. The 2027 Bolt LT starts at $27,600 and the RS at $31,600, before a $1,395 destination charge. The 2026 Niro EV starts at $39,700, so the gap is $12,100 at the base and $8,100 between the Bolt RS and the Niro EV Wind.
Which has more range, the Kia Niro EV or Chevrolet Bolt EV?
The Bolt EV, narrowly. EPA rates the 2027 Bolt at 262 miles and the 2026 Niro EV at 253. The Bolt is also slightly more efficient, at 28 kWh/100 mi against 30.
Can the Kia Niro EV and Chevrolet Bolt EV use Tesla Superchargers?

Which has more cargo space, the Kia Niro EV or Chevrolet Bolt EV?
