The Charge Port's Take

Hand-written editorial · last updated September 2026

Who the 2027 Trailseeker is for

The Trailseeker is Subaru's bigger electric SUV: a midsize, five-seat, all-wheel-drive crossover with 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, against 24 for the Solterra in our database. Every version uses the same 375-hp dual-motor powertrain, and Subaru quotes 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, which it says makes the Trailseeker the quickest production Subaru sold in the US. With 8.5 inches of ground clearance, X-MODE and a 3,500-pound tow rating, it suits buyers who need all-wheel drive, dirt-road ability and room for gear more than maximum range.

Trims and pricing

Subaru sells the 2027 Trailseeker in three trims, priced before a $1,475 destination and delivery charge. The Premium, at $39,995, rides on 18-inch wheels and has the most range, 281 miles. The $43,995 Limited moves to 20-inch wheels (274 miles) and adds Harman Kardon audio, heated rear seats and a panoramic view monitor. The $46,555 Touring adds a panoramic moonroof and ventilated front seats. Subaru also lists a leather-upholstered Touring as a separate price line, and its 2027 prices are unchanged from 2026.

Range and efficiency

EPA rates the Premium at 281 miles and the 20-inch-wheel Limited and Touring at 274, so the bigger wheels cost seven miles. EPA efficiency is 29 kWh per 100 miles for the Premium and 30 for the other two. Subaru lists a 74.7 kWh battery but doesn't say whether that's gross or usable capacity. Those are mid-pack figures: a Tesla Model Y Standard AWD is rated at 294 miles, and Toyota's bZ Woodland AWD at 260 to 281. Expect less at sustained highway speed and in freezing weather.

Charging: a native NACS port

The Trailseeker has a native NACS charge port on the right-front fender, so it plugs into Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Subaru quotes 10% to 80% in as little as 28 minutes on a DC fast charger, at up to 150 kW. Subaru's documents we read don't say whether CCS1 or J1772 adapters come with the car, so ask the dealer if you'll use older non-Tesla chargers. Subaru doesn't publish the onboard AC charger's rating either, so we don't quote a Level 2 home-charging time.

Towing, clearance and cargo

Subaru rates the Trailseeker to tow up to 3,500 pounds and gives it 8.5 inches of minimum ground clearance, plus X-MODE with Deep Snow/Mud settings for low-grip surfaces. Behind the rear seats there are 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space, rising to 74.0 with the seats folded; the Touring's panoramic moonroof trims those figures to 30.4 and 71.8. It seats five. Subaru assembles the Trailseeker in Japan, and it rides on 18-inch wheels in Premium form and 20-inch wheels on the Limited and Touring.

How it compares

Toyota's bZ Woodland AWD is the closest match in our database: also midsize, 375 hp and all-wheel drive with a native NACS port, rated at 260 to 281 miles, with a 5.0-second 0-60 and a 30-minute 10–80% charge. The Trailseeker is a little quicker (4.3 seconds) and charges a little faster (28 minutes). Hyundai's Ioniq 5 charges faster still, in about 20 minutes on most trims, while a Tesla Model Y Standard AWD goes further, at 294 miles, for $41,990 before destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the 2027 Subaru Trailseeker cost?

The 2027 Subaru Trailseeker starts at $39,995 MSRP for the Trailseeker Premium and runs to $46,555 for the Trailseeker Touring across the 3 configurations we track. With Subaru's $1,475 destination fee, that comes to $41,470 to $48,030 before tax, registration and options. By trim: Trailseeker Premium, $39,995 ($41,470 with the destination fee); Trailseeker Limited, $43,995 ($45,470 with the destination fee); Trailseeker Touring, $46,555 ($48,030 with the destination fee).

What is the range of the 2027 Subaru Trailseeker?

EPA rates the 2027 Trailseeker Premium, on 18-inch wheels, at 281 miles. The Limited and Touring, on 20-inch wheels, are rated at 274 miles. EPA efficiency is 29 kWh per 100 miles for the Premium and 30 for the 20-inch trims. Real-world range will be lower at sustained highway speeds and in freezing weather, and much lower when towing.

How fast does the Subaru Trailseeker accelerate 0-60 mph?

Subaru quotes 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds for the 2027 Trailseeker, from two 167 kW motors making 375 hp combined. Subaru gives one time for the model rather than one per trim; the three trims share the powertrain. Subaru says that makes the Trailseeker the quickest production Subaru sold in the US.

How long does the Subaru Trailseeker take to DC fast-charge?

Subaru quotes 10% to 80% in as little as 28 minutes on a DC fast charger, at up to 150 kW, and the native NACS port plugs straight into Tesla Superchargers. For home charging, Subaru doesn't publish the Trailseeker's onboard AC charger rating, so we don't quote a Level 2 time; a 240-volt Level 2 charger is still the practical way to charge overnight.

Does the Subaru Trailseeker have a Tesla (NACS) charging port?

Yes. Subaru's 2026 and 2027 Trailseeker specifications list a native NACS charge port on the right-front fender, so it can use Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Subaru's documents we read don't say whether CCS1 or J1772 adapters come with the car, so check with the dealer if you plan to use older CCS1 fast chargers or J1772 Level 2 stations.

How much can the Subaru Trailseeker tow?

Subaru rates the 2027 Trailseeker to tow up to 3,500 pounds. It also has 8.5 inches of minimum ground clearance and X-MODE with Deep Snow/Mud settings. Towing cuts an EV's range sharply, so plan charging stops around a much shorter distance than the 274-to-281-mile EPA rating.

How much cargo space does the Subaru Trailseeker have?

Subaru lists 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 74.0 cubic feet with them folded, by EPA measure. The Touring's standard panoramic moonroof trims those figures to 30.4 and 71.8. The Trailseeker seats five, and it's classed as a midsize SUV in our database, like Toyota's bZ Woodland.

Subaru Trailseeker vs Toyota bZ Woodland: what's the difference?

On paper they're close: both are midsize, 375-hp, all-wheel-drive SUVs with native NACS ports. In our database the Trailseeker is quicker (4.3 seconds 0-60 against 5.0), charges a little faster (28 minutes 10–80% against 30) and has slightly more cargo space (31.3 cubic feet against 30). EPA range is similar: 274 to 281 miles for the Trailseeker, 260 to 281 for the bZ Woodland AWD.

What is the 2027 Subaru Trailseeker release date?

Subaru announced 2027 Trailseeker pricing on July 2, 2026 and said the 2027 would reach retailers nationwide later that fall, at the same MSRPs as the 2026 model, which Subaru priced in December 2025. Both model years carry the same EPA ratings, 281 and 274 miles, and Subaru's 2027 release quotes 0-60 in 4.3 seconds.

Is the Subaru Trailseeker available with all-wheel drive?

Yes — all 3 Subaru Trailseeker configurations in our database are all-wheel drive. Dual-motor (or tri-motor on performance variants) setups deliver improved traction and faster acceleration than comparable single-motor EVs.

How many people does the Subaru Trailseeker seat?

The Subaru Trailseeker seats 5.

Does the 2027 Subaru Trailseeker qualify for a federal EV tax credit?

No. The federal Clean Vehicle Credit (IRC §30D) expired on September 30, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — no new EVs purchased on or after October 1, 2025 qualify. State incentives remain available: see our /deals page for current rebates in California, Maine, Colorado, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and other states. The Section 30C EV Charger Tax Credit (for home charger installation) expired June 30, 2026 — if your charger was placed in service on or before that date, you can still claim it (30% up to $1,000) on your 2026 return via IRS Form 8911.

How long will the Subaru Trailseeker battery last?

Real-world data from EV fleets suggests modern lithium-ion EV batteries (2020+) retain roughly 85–90% of their original capacity at 100,000 miles and 80–85% at 200,000 miles.
