The verdict

Two new German luxury SUVs, both with NACS ports, that split cleanly on range against pace. The BMW iX3 costs less and goes farther: $61,500 against $63,500 before destination, and an EPA range of 383 to 434 miles against 331 to 350 for the GLC 400 4MATIC Electric. The Mercedes answers with more power and pace (483 hp and 4.2 seconds to 60, against 463 hp and 4.7), a little more cargo space, and a 22-minute 10-80% charge at up to 330 kW, within a minute of the iX3's 21 in our table. Timing matters too: Mercedes lists the GLC Electric at an official price but says US deliveries begin in the second half of 2026, so we list it as upcoming, while BMW's US launch of the iX3 was set for late September 2026. Buy the iX3 for range per dollar; buy the GLC if you want the quicker SUV and don't need the extra miles.

Price and availability

Mercedes-Benz has priced one electric GLC for its US launch, the 2027 GLC 400 4MATIC Electric, at $63,500 plus a $1,450 destination charge. It is buildable on Mercedes' US site, and Mercedes says deliveries start in the second half of 2026. The gas and plug-in hybrid GLC stay on sale alongside it. The 2027 iX3 50 xDrive, also the only version in our table, costs $61,500, and BMW timed US deliveries for late September 2026. Neither has resale, warranty or insurance data in our files yet, so the $2,000 sticker gap is the only ownership cost we can compare.

Range, performance and charging

EPA rates the iX3 at 383 to 434 miles and the GLC Electric at 331 to 350, across two EPA configurations, so even the lowest iX3 figure is 33 miles above the GLC's highest. The BMW is also slightly more efficient by EPA's measure (32 kWh/100 mi against 33). The Mercedes is quicker: Mercedes quotes 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds from 483 hp, against 4.7 seconds from 463 hp for the iX3. Fast charging is close: Mercedes quotes 10-80% in 22 minutes at up to 330 kW on an 800-volt station, and our table lists 21 minutes for the iX3, with a 400 kW peak in our NACS data. At home, the GLC's 9.6 kW onboard charger needs about 12.5 hours for a full Level 2 charge, per Mercedes, against about 10 hours for the iX3 in our table.

Ports, towing and practicality

Both have NACS ports. The GLC uses its NACS port for DC fast charging and a separate J1772 port for AC charging, and carries a standard DC converter so it can charge at 400-volt stations, which include most Tesla Superchargers, at up to 100 kW; Mercedes hasn't published GLC-specific Supercharger access terms. The iX3's NACS port handles both, with J1772 stations reachable through an adapter in our NACS data. The Mercedes lists 20.1 cubic feet behind the rear seats plus a 4.5-cubic-foot front trunk, against 18 for the iX3 in our table, and Mercedes rates the GLC to tow 5,291 pounds; we don't have BMW's towing figure on file, so we can't compare them.
